I always enjoy helping clients understand all the moving pieces that go on behind the scenes in their court case. The rules are always changing, especially as technology has become more and more prevalent in our lives. My clients comment on the sheer amount of data recorded at their hospital bedside between the computers and other monitors.
The legal system is similarly aware of these large troves of data, which often are important for my client's case. There are now new court rules, which govern how lawyers work with this electronic data, and I was invited to speak on these rules at the Michigan State Bar Negligence Law Section. These new rules take effect on January 1, 2020.
There were over 300 attendees at the event, and I spoke specifically on these new rules and application to electronic records, including medical records. Be assured that I'm always looking out for our client's case, even when that means the smallest scrap of electronic data stored at a hospital or doctor's office.
